I was reading in 1 Samuel Chapter 15 where a WORD had come to Samuel from GOD concerning Saul the King of Israel , whom the people had cried out for as needing a King ,to go and destroy the Amalekites. Saul did what he thought was right and what he knew would please the people , however, he did not fully obey GOD. There was a remnant of Amalek which was not destroyed.
In my humble opinion the Amalekites represent our ” old sin nature ” . As GOD’S people were coming out of Egypt , as they were headed into their Promise , the Amalekites came against them in every time of weakness and destroyed their Hope of promise.
After finally gaining the “Promised Land ” the people of GOD desired to be more like the world around them and wanted a King to lead them. GOD gave HIS people an opportunity to , once and for all, rid themselves of their SIN . They in turn , with help from their leadership , did not obey GOD . Instead the” chosen” of GOD elected to hold onto all which they perceived to be good within their Enemy; GOD’S Enemy. Sin.
Thank GOD for HIS prophet!!! Guiding what was obviously a Lost people from a position outside of the congregation Samuel was able to redeem the “chosen” by executing Agag [ Satan ] and everything which he represented. With his sword {word] Samuel slay the wickedness before GOD , however , he also had torn Saul’s robe from him . GOD was in want of a new leader for HIS people. HE required obedience.
Oftentimes I know that I am in the Promise of GOD yet holding on to something which is not of GOD . I am holding on to sin . There always seems to be that “something ” which I just don’t want to let go of. Perhaps that is why I have always held low positions; not my will to serve others ; but , my disobedience to GOD!!! I pray that this unwillingness to conform to HIS Will, all of HIS Will , will change. AMEN!!! I do not wish my entire life to be spent under attack from my enemies!!!
Goin to the WELL. I need a drink of Water. I LOVE You!!!!!!! Mark
that was my message i had been waiting on…. thank you
Hi Mark,
The beauty of GOD’S WORD (the bible) is that there can be numerous meanings in any one passage. Only GOD knows what HE wanted it all to mean. Knowing GOD, I would not be surprised to find out that HE wrote many passages with the intent that they would mean something to one generation, something else to another generation and still something else to future generations. That’s the kind of planning GOD had to do to design this world and everything it. Why would we assume that HE put less effect into writing of the bible?
When I read the passages you discussed related to the Hebrews wanting a king, I wish we could turn the clock back to that time and start over. How could the Hebrews want a human leader when they had GOD leading them. While GOD was their leader and they had no king, the Hebrews escaped slavery in Egypt, grew in number and power while they traveled in the desert and last but not least took over the promised land by force without losing a lot men. Why would they want to change when everything was working so well? Why would they want to be more like all the nations they defeated?
Actually, it sounds a lot like Adam and Eve. Just like the Hebrews, Adam and Eve were lead by GOD and they owned the Garden of Eden. So they decided they wanted to be like GOD (a king) and then they lost the Garden of Eden. The Hebrews under GOD (like our pledge – ONE NATION UNDER GOD some want to change it) controlled the Promised Land. Under a human king the nation gradually fell apart (Is the UNITED STATES gradually falling apart because some no long want to be ONE NATION UNDER GOD?).
Like I said above one passage can have different meaning to different generations. It might be the SAME WARNING with different players. Or it could be the a parable or story predicting a future event. Only GOD knows which is right but it sure proves GOD exists and the bible is the word of GOD.
Chuck ,once again thank you for your insight. I see a cycle of the same events in every individual human being’s life . Imagine GOD establishing a goverment within you and then you seeking to be more like the world. Thank GOD for Forgivness!!! May the Peace and Love of GOD be upon you!!! Mark
